Ground Breaking Work with a Brilliant Community

THE CLIENT

At the Sony UK Technology Centre in Pencoed the team manufacture high-end broadcast and professional camera systems.  The camera technology manufactured on site can be found in sports stadiums, studios and outside tv broadcast units around the world, and they also offer a complete manufacturing solution for third party products such as Smoothskin and Raspberry Pi.

SONY have been based in Pencoed for over 30 years and are an integral part of the community,  as well as housing 32 related start up businesses in the location. 

THE BRIEF

The Sony UK Technology Centre offering had expanded since we designed and developed their previous website  in 2011 and they felt Autumn 2015 was the right time for a fresh approach to their online presence.  As a Manufacturing Centre of Excellence it was particularly important to showcase the full range of services on offer at the centre and the impressive awards and accreditations achieved in recent years. 

Sony UK Technology Centre are also a Sony Customer Service Centre for the UK and handle daily enquiries regarding all Sony products, therefore an effective method of dealing with enquiries was vital, to ensure that every enquiry would reach the correct team to be handled accordingly. 

The site needed to be a reflection of the ground breaking work delivered on site, as well as showcasing the brilliant community work carried out by the team, new visuals were key, as well as having a site responsive to mobile and tablet devices. 

THE SOLUTION

The new responsive website is designed to highlight the full the range of services available at the Pencoed location. Visually it is much more bold than the previous site and signposting to relevant areas is much improved from the previous iteration. The manufacturing process is showcased on the homepage with strong imagery and links through to further information, as well as a large section of the home page being dedicated to the BFA awards, which are extremely hard to win! 

Further new features include:

  • The contact area includes a breakdown of services available with an enquiry form for each type, to ensure that any request is signposted to the correct member of staff as efficiently as possible as this is key to optimising efficiency and response times.  
  • A password-protected Press Library section allows Sony to allocate logins to press contacts to share photographs, videos and articles without having to rely on e-mail or file transfer.  Files can be categorised by type and are searchable using keywords. 
  • An upgraded News area includes the option to ‘feature’ a news story for extra attention at the top of the news listing and a photo gallery allows visitors to browse through related images. 
  • Sony UK Technology Centre prides itself on being a socially aware business, working with local schools and charities to provide tours of the factory and on site Environmental Centre. As part of the Community section we developed a postcode search to check eligibility for tours along with the opportunity to download an application form for eligible organisations.
