Cardiff over Christmas time is a truly magical place. The city transforms into Santa’s very own Christmas grotto, giving us all the Christmas feels. With the countdown to Christmas in single figures, we’ve listed the top 5 things to do in Cardiff this festive period.

1. Cardiff's Winter Wonderland 

Back for another year, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland never fails to disappoint! With an ice-skating rink, funfair rides and a brand-new winter lodge themed bar it has everything you could possibly want. There’s also plenty of opportunity to try some delicious Christmas treats!

Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland takes place at City Hall Lawn, Cardiff and runs until 3rd January.

2. cardiff christmas market 

Voted as one of the best UK Christmas markets, this is definitely not an event be missed this Christmas. Wander around the wooden huts full of hand-crafted goodies with everything from Welsh chocolate, cakes and cheeses to slate products and beautiful Christmas decorations. Our local Christmas market has it all!

3. #gingerbreadmun house 

While you’re Christmas shopping, make sure you head down to the Hayes, where you’ll find a sweet treat and some festive fun at the #GingerbreadMun House. Christmas elves will be handing out some Christmas treats and giving you the chance to win some amazing prizes.

4. Cardiff castle's santa grotto 

No festive period is complete without a visit to Santa. The much-loved Santa’s grotto returns to Cardiff Castle, providing a magical Christmas experience set in the 13th Century Black Tower allowing you to explore the Castle in all its festive splendour!

5. Watch a panto

Panto’s have been part of the Christmas tradition for centuries, and 2018 is no different! At Christmas, Cardiff offers an array of pantos with many celebrities taking centre stage. You can watch rugby star Gareth Thomas take on the role of Alfie in Beauty and the Beast joined by Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley starring as Belle. Whatever your choice of panto, it’s sure to be great fun for all the family!
