What is Clubhouse?

If you’ve had an invite to the Clubhouse app but don’t know what it is, how you use it, or even if it could be used to benefit your business, then you’re in the right place. We’re here to break down the Clubhouse app, helping you decide whether you should accept or decline that oh-so exclusive invite.

So, let’s start by answering, what is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is the latest social media app that relies on audio as its main form of communication. Similar to a live podcast, Clubhouse enables people from all over the world to engage in real-time conversations about their interests, industries and professions. With around 2 million weekly active users, there is a constant stream of audio content to listen to and join in with. And, as any Clubhouse user can create their own room and start a conversation, the choice of topics are truly endless.

How to use Clubhouse for business

Like any social media app, Clubhouse can be a useful tool for businesses. But first you need to know how to use it, before you can incorporate it as part of your digital marketing strategy.

1. Create a bio for your business

Much like Twitter and Instagram, your Clubhouse profile includes a bio, which can be used to provide other users with information about you, your profession and your business. While Clubhouse doesn’t currently support links in user bios, we’d recommend including what your username is on each social media platform, followed by a call to action. This will encourage users viewing your profile to find and connect with you elsewhere.

2. Join clubs and chat rooms

When you first join the Clubhouse app, it’s important you take the time to find clubs which are right for you and your business. To do so, you can use the club directory to search for clubs related to your industry and interests. For example, if you were a start-up Law Firm, you might search for ‘lawyers’ or ‘law industry’ to find relevant clubs. And, once you start following clubs, you can begin to join the chat rooms they’re hosting.

3. Follow relevant users

The best way to find users to follow on Clubhouse is by exploring the members of the clubs you join. This will enable you to find like-minded members who are interested in the same topics as you. By clicking on a user, you can read their bio and see what other clubs they’re involved in, to help decide whether you want to follow them or not.

4. Get involved!

Once you’ve set up your account and joined a range of clubs, you can begin to get involved! We’d recommend you start by joining relatively small chat rooms, as this will increase your chances of being accepted to go on stage to share your views and opinions. After you’ve gained attention and a started to grow a following, you can even start your own club to host chat rooms in.

Benefits of Clubhouse for businesses

As a platform that revolves around word-of-mouth marketing, Clubhouse has the potential to boast a number of benefits for your business.

1. Networking opportunities

If you’ve been involved in a chat room and have been particularly interested in,or impressed by another user’s discussion, why not send them a message once the chat room is over? This is a great way of networking with others in your industry and taking your connections beyond the Clubhouse app.

2. Learning from industry leaders

Clubhouse can be particularly valuable for both start-up businesses and brands looking to branch into new areas of an industry. That’s because Clubhouse chat rooms essentially act as live panels, where you can listen to thought leaders talk about their industry experiences. This is a great way to learn from others and could help you solve a problem or strengthen your business strategy.

3. Growing brand awareness

Once you’re ready to create your own chat rooms, you can tailor the topics around your own areas of expertise, positioning yourself as an expert in your industry. Just like creating a blog post on your business’s website, hosting a chat room will enable you to share your knowledge with users, whilst growing awareness and recognition for your brand.

Whilst technically still in beta, the Clubhouse app has quickly gained traction and left many users desperate to receive an invite. So, if you’ve already got an invite waiting to be accepted, why not give it a go and see what results you can generate using Clubhouse for your business?
