The Client

Exeter College is located in the heart of Oxford. The college is the fourth oldest at the University, occupying its current site on Turl Street since 1315, one year after the college was founded. Today Exeter College is home to a diverse community of fellows and students from across the world.

The Brief

Having worked on various projects with Oxford University, Exeter College felt their current website needed improvement to reflect who they were and what they were about. Extensive work with prospective students and internal stakeholders was needed to attract the top students and showcase the college as a world-leading educational institution.

Excited to work with such a prestigious institution, the Spindogs team couldn’t wait to begin creating something that would show off the college’s offering and cement its reputation as one of Oxford University’s oldest and most renowned colleges.

“There are almost forty colleges within the University of Oxford and we wanted to create a website that would stand out from the crowd. Spindogs showed they had the creativity and vision to come up with something genuinely different that would appeal to our audiences while reflecting the college’s values and identity. “They responded to our brief with energy, imagination and expertise. We are delighted with the end result and have no hesitation in recommending Spindogs to any organisation wanting a high quality, good value website.”

The Solution

We delivered a WordPress website to consistently deliver a powerful impact to the user. The website uses flexible content blocks to create bespoke landing pages with ease for the college. At the start of the project, there was a full discovery process to establish the needs of the target audience. We spoke to undergraduates, postgraduate, alumni, staff and prospective students to establish their behaviour and needs attached to the new website. Following this process we conducted workshops, online surveys and interviews, and pulled together the findings to create a bespoke document of recommendations.

We focused on the three core user groups (applicants, students and alumni) when building the website to ensure users could find relevant content with ease, utilising clearly categorised side navigation to create a smooth user journey.
