The Client

The Produced in Northumberland verification scheme aims to celebrate local produce by showcasing both producers themselves and the businesses who use Northumberland-made produce.

A strong brand drawing inspiration from the already successful ‘Independent Spirit’ branding, Produced in Northumberland offers visitors a unique insight into the real taste of Northumberland and allows retailers, serviced accommodation and hospitality businesses the opportunity to present themselves as advocates of local food.

The Brief

The main aim of the new Produced in Northumberland was to cater for its six key stakeholders:

  • Tourists who are visiting, or have previously visited Northumberland
  • Northumberland local residents
  • Shops wishing to stock local produce
  • Hotels, Restaurants and Guest Houses who cook with and serve these local products
  • Suppliers who produce local food and drink but are not yet part of the scheme
  • Suppliers who are already in the scheme

Each of these groups needed to be addressed through a dedicated section on the website which outlines the benefits of the Produced in Northumberland scheme to them.

The web project needed to be completed over the course of five weeks, using a combination of existing design modules and new ones that are also suitable for future use, and resulting in website on a Kentico CMS platform that can be used by multiple content editors.

The Solution

Working with Northumberland County Council’s (NCC) design agency Cool Blue, who primarily specialise in print, we tackled the challenges of making static designs come to life and created a series of templates for the NCC developers to integrate with Kentico.

The great working relationship we already had in place with both NCC and Cool Blue as a result of collaborating on previous projects meant we were able to easily tackle any issues, and the client was pleased with the end results.

“Great job on the Produced in Northumberland website, we love it!” Jim Bolland, Web and Social Media Business Partner

The Results

We have created an online platform where people can learn more about the Produced in Northumberland scheme and look into the local producers.

The Produced in Northumberland website’s searchable listing is a great PR opportunity for businesses who want to differentiate themselves from the competition and capitalise on the fact that visitors are willing to splurge more on locally sourced food and drink.
