THE CLIENT

Berkeley Group builds homes and neighbourhoods across London, Birmingham and the South of England. They revive underused land, creating welcoming, sustainable and nature-rich places where communities thrive and where people of all ages and backgrounds enjoy a great quality of life.

They specialise in long-term brownfield regeneration, focusing on challenging and complex sites that are beyond the scope of conventional home builders.

Berkeley Group came to us to design and develop a new website to promote their newest development in London, Oval Village.

THE BRIEF

The building work of Oval Village was in the very early stages of development and they needed a web presence to get a message across that it would be a benefit to the area and to counter any idea that this was a massive new upmarket development that would be a pain to local residents and take away from the community.

There wasn’t a lot of content so we would rely heavily on the marketing team to provide a timeline of information to stress the heritage angle of the building site. Oval Village also wanted a News section built as a way of showcasing community engagement with the project.

THE SOLUTION

We started with a kick-off meeting to discuss priorities for the messaging on the website which was to be all about the history of the Oval Village construction site. The gasworks (the location of the village) had been there a long time and were viewed as iconic.

We produced a simple website that showcased that the Oval Village construction was something for community members to be excited about, rather than something that they may see as an inconvenience. With the help from the Berkley Group marketing team, we were able to input beautiful imagery showing a welcoming community feel and wording and a historical timeline that displayed an understanding and appreciation for the site’s history.

The news section we built in allowed the team to further the community feel by adding blogs such as “Our first street party” and "Helping young mums in Brixton".
