Park Plaza Cardiff is part of the Park Plaza Hotel Group but has its own website to showcase the hotel in Cardiff city centre. This hotel is 4-star and has a boutique feel, but with the added bonus of being in the centre of a buzzing city. The hotel has a bar, restaurant, spa and facilities for meetings and events.
The brief was to create a new website for Park Plaza which would illustrate quality, sophistication and a deluxe experience. It was essential that the website had an enhanced ‘Book Now’ button so that it was easy for the user to book a room at the hotel. This was a primary objective for Park Plaza Cardiff and they were also keen to increase newsletter sign ups and promote all of the facilities in the hotel. The website also needed to communicate their current brand and have a clear navigation for the user.
At the beginning, we felt it was important that everyone working on the project had a solid understanding of the client and what makes them different from other hotels in Cardiff. We held a meeting with everyone and discussed this in depth, before tackling the design of the new website. We understood that the client was concerned that they might be losing potential bookings online as the previous website’s usability needed to be improved. Therefore, we decided that it was important to have a booking bar locked on the bottom of each page. We wanted to avoid having the booking bar in a left or right column as this might have distracted the user from the website’s content. We felt that our solution would satisfy the need to have a prominent booking section but would also not damage the website’s design or content.
Alongside the booking bar, the design of the website was meticulously thought out as it was essential that the website oozed style and luxury. Therefore, there is a lot of white space on the website as it takes a certain confidence to leave space on a website. Photography was also essential to this project as the images on the website would immediately tell the user that this hotel is luxurious. During development, we made sure that it highlighted the hotel’s boutique image with some subtle animations on rollover and that the booking process was seamless.
