The Client

The team at the Sony UK Technology Centre in Pencoed manufacture high-end broadcast and professional camera systems.  The camera technology manufactured on site can be found in sports stadiums, studios and outside tv broadcast units around the world, and they also offer a complete manufacturing solution for third party products such as Smoothskin and Raspberry Pi.

SONY has been based in Pencoed for over 30 years and are an integral part of the community,  as well as housing 32 related start-up businesses in the location.

The Brief

Having built the original Sony UK Technology Centre website in 2011, followed by a site refresh in 2015, it was a natural progression that the team approached us to build the new SONY Refurbished site too. The purpose of the refurbished site would be to allow Sony to advertise and gather enquiries for refurbished and graded cameras. There needed to be flexibility on the site for the admins to input individual data and statuses for each piece of equipment listed.

The Solution

We created a website that allows Sony to display all products that have been refurbished and are available for users to enquire about purchasing. We built the site specifically so the user can view the grade, age and condition of each individual product that has been refurbished within Sony Pencoed. Users can then create ‘kit bags’ of all the models/products/accessories that they want to enquire about.

We also made it possible for site admins to be able to update the status of each camera (live, under offer, confirmed, sold, binned, coming soon) in the CMS (content management system), along with the date and time the product sold. This was to ensure it was possible to track the status of all the cameras on the site. Eventually, we have a view to create a reporting dashboard so this provides most of the information at a glance.
